We’re still awaiting news of the release of HP’s next generation MediaSmart Server in Europe – we’ve been told a separate announcement is planned next month.
However, looks like a few online retailers in the UK already have the EX490 listed on their sites:
Amazon.co.uk
– £429
More Computers – £453.24
Kikatek – £424.66
LambdaTek – £427.21
Obviously no stock available at this point, and no sign of the EX495 either at this point, but looks like we can safely say that the UK will be getting the new HP MediaSmart Server in the coming months. Expect the models to pop up at more sites in the coming weeks.

All listed dealers here have removed their "expected by" dates….Are HP playing up on delivery dates?

Apparently, HP tell me that wholesalers have sold out and are fast tracking more units into the UK as we speak….

Are there any any retail shops that let you see a windows home server running? I stil don't yet see the advantage over a NAS.

- automatic backups.
- no need to have exactly the same drives in (start with 1tb, buy a 2tb to it, next year a 3tb drive, and all you do is plug it in and add to pool. later get the 2tb out and put a 4tb in, etc)
- addons for anything you'd like. have a media center? how about mymovies on the homeserver?
- full iis. my webpage is by now on the home server.
so in short, the nas is a great box that does it's job. but if you want a device that grows with you over the years without any hazzle, get a home server. much much much more versatile.

I've found this company (www.serversplus.com) who are getting some in this week I called them up. Dunno if they're any good but have a look anyway.
