A no brainer if your experience is limited. Here are 2 reasons, I am sure that there are more:

1. Using non-MS applications that don't use MS SQL by default.

2. SQLExpress has size limitation of 2 GB (I believe), MySQL does not.

Now that Oracle owns MySQL other alternatives such as Postgresql might be a viable alternative.

When I installed de version 1.0.4. of WHS PHP i get the following error

PHP has encountered an Access Violation at 026F2BEB

what have i do wrong

I just retried using Chrome, and it failed, but was successful using IE.

Random I know, and I don’t know enough to say why, but I am guessing maybe one of the Chrome extensions. Its not the first time I ran into that problem.

I will try later with various extensions disabled just to see.

Hi,
I have tried to download this several times. Each time I try to unzip, there is an error in the archive, and it breaks the operation.

Is there an alternate download link?

I was hoping to start running a joomla website on my homeserver. However, when I install MySQL, the process is sudenly rolling back at the end of the installation and displays an error message 1603. Please contact the add-in author.

Any idea what’s wrong?

I agree with Mike, I’m not sure WordPress even works with WordPress for example, and Gallery 2 seems to be more experimental support with MS Sql but both have been developed with MySql in mind.

I don’t know why anyone would really want to use mySQL on their home server.. but ok…

SQL 2008 Express is absolutely free and provides 80% of the functionality of the Enterprise Edition. On a Windows-based machine, it’s a no-brainer.
