TwonkyBeam – Beam Media From Your Browser to a Network Media Player

There’s been a lot of noise around the new “Play To” feature in Windows 7 which allows you to select a music, video or video file in Windows Explorer and send it to a networked device elsewhere in your home. But what if you could do the same with music, videos and other media in Internet Explorer?

The forthcoming TwonkyBeam from TwonkyMedia aims to deliver exactly that. Released on September 23rd, TwonkyBeam is a free application that works with IE and allows you to send media to a compatible digital media renderer (DMR) simply by right-clicking on that media in the browser.

Strangely, the words "Xbox" and "360" are nowhere to be seen on the TwonkBeam site or even in the full list of supported devices.

Anyone know if it works? It seems strange that it would be absent… some weirdness with MS, perhaps?

    • Rick

The reason Xbox 360 isn't listed is that it's not yet a DMR. XBMC software DOES now work with TwonkyBeam however!

One thing the site does mention is that Mac support is coming soon, so I wonder if that means they will just do a Firefox plugin? That would be great!

    • Rick

You are correct. We are porting to Firefox on both Mac and PC. This must be the #1 request for this product.
