HP MediaSmart Server EX495 Unboxed

Following today’s announcement of HP’s third generation home server, here are the unboxing shots you’ve been waiting for! WGS received one of the first production units a couple of weeks ago, and one of the first things I noticed was that the box had been changed to a pretty cool front opening design.

As you can see, the the new HP MediaSmart 3.0 software is bundled with the home server alongside power and ethernet cables. The hardware chassis is unchanged from the previous EX48x series, with only an Intel Pentium sticker on the outside giving the game away that this is new model.

Stay tuned for more on the new HP model today….

i so hope this is what they are releasing in the UK when they finall launch them again over here and not the now outdated ex48x series. I have been holding out for ages on a home server and not sure how much longer I can. Come on HP, do something right for us folk here in the UK!

    • http://intensedebate.com/people/tezzer Terry Walsh

Yes, it'll be the EX49x in the UK, don't worry…

  • jnoel

How about a software update to this new software interface and mac features for EX48x users?

    • http://intensedebate.com/people/tezzer Terry Walsh

Yep, there's one on the way.

      • Bill

        I'm sorry…can you clarify. I have a EX485…Will we get the 3.0 update?

        • http://intensedebate.com/people/tezzer Terry Walsh

From what I've been told by HP, yes.

Terry nice post, I feel sorry for you answering that question so many times. Hmm chassis seems unchanged other than a rear PSU fan and windows logo is higher at the front. Packaging is also similar. I am so tempted by that Pentium.

@ Terry: Do you know if these models will be available in The Netherlands? I have my homebuild server but since HP has added MAC support i have been interested in Mediasmart Server.

Hopefully they do come to The Netherlands!

    • Cees

@Marc: I contacted HP Netherlands a few weeks ago. They told me round Christmas HP Mediasmart will be available with a street price of 599/699 euro.

      • Marc

@Cees: I know what i am going to ask santa :-)

I heard from the hp supplier of the company i work with that hp told him it wasn;t on the roadmap for Holland!
