The D400’s User Guide, Tech Specs and Hardware Maintenance Manual have also been published to the web, which are well worth leafing through if you’re thinking of purchasing the model. The latter contains full details on upgrading storage and memory on the D400, which at first glance seems much more straightforward than the HP MediaSmart Server. Memory on the D400 is upgradable to 2Gb, which is good news for those of you who want an extra power boost.
Lenovo’s new Home Server EasyAccess utility looks pretty cool – offering a neat way of integrating access to your home server into Windows Explorer, offering context sensitive menu options when you right click on a file to upload it to your home server.
The specs belie the fact that the D400 is very similar to Acer’s Aspire easyStore Home Server – certainly coming out of the same Original Device Manufacturer (Wistron) – the hardware is slightly remodelled and add-in complement tweaked. Given the Acer provides a higher spec at a better price, the D400 looks expensive at launch, but we’ll have to wait to see what discounts are available when the product finally hits retail.

Looks like a spin-off from the Acer. Same plastic trays (see photo), same left side status bar, same port placement, same specs (with less RAM). Seems Lenovo just called up Acer to order some raw units, put their own cover on it, and charges more.

Yeap sure looks like Acer easyStore h340.
The service manual even has the same pics as acer inside.
