Microsoft Worldwide Partner Conference

Over in New Orleans this week Microsoft has been holding its annual Worldwide Partner Conference. This is a get together held for thousands of Microsoft re-sellers, manufacturing partners and development partners.

Whilst WGS didn’t make it over there (although I think Bodog may be popping in) you can follow the major keynotes from Steve Ballmer, Kevin Turner and others over at the WPC website.

As you may have guessed, with no new news on the home server front right now, Windows Home Server has a booth in New Orleans to showcase the platform butotherwise has a low-key presence at the show, whilst work (I guess) continues back at the ranch on Vail.

Well worth checking out Steve Ballmer if you get the chance – I’ve seen himn present a couple of times now live, and he’s a great laugh.

WGS is indeed represented here at WWPC – I will file a report with pictures next week but I can report that WHS is well represented on a couple of the Microsoft booths – and that there a number of HP MSS's being given away (keep your fingers crossed for me to win one tommorrow!). The guys manning the WHS cubes are WHS team members or home server enthusiasts and it was refreshing to see people who actually knew the product on the stands

I don't expect to hear anything new about WHS until CES. My primary desire for the upcoming WHS release revolves around whole home media…

    - Media Center "server" and includes a Live Mesh Media Center app for accessing Media Center Live TV, Recordings (Protected or Not) from other home networked PCs.

I wonder if Microsft will piggyback the "Vail" WHS release with a major update to the Media Center/Extender platform itself. Media Center in Windows 7 isn't all that much different from Vista's Media Center w/TV Pack.

I am finding the few tid-bits of information on Vail excruciatingly painful. It is truly regrettable that we are not seeing any news or indication as to what will be next in VAIL. Only those with signed NDA know some of the info, but they cannot provide any information, (we understand).

Microsoft, please provide us with something soon…some hope… for this forgotten(by marketing), but not forgettable platform…

We are starved for any information…something, anything, please…

_If this is off topic and perhaps, thought by some, to be in bad taste, forgive me……….I cannot resist the open door. Is he (Steve Ballmer) sometimes not more of a big joke than great laugh?
