Compugeek Software’s mobile phone add-in for Windows Home Server, WHS Mobile, has had a rapid update to version 1.0.5.5. New in this version is music streaming to iPhone and Windows Mobile Devices, alongside bug fixes.

Fixes:

  • Accidental leftover debug code
  • Installer problems
  • Fixes WM client’s positioning code (hopefully)

Adds:

  • MP3 streaming on the iPhone client – You’ll notice “[Play Album]” add the end of a folder listing where mp3s exist, and a new option when you select an mp3 file.
  • WMA streaming for the Windows Mobile Client – Click preview when a WMA file is selected. Unfortunately, Mobile Windows Media Player doesn’t support streaming mp3s.

Whilst the add-in currently requires you to jailbreak you iPhone to use, a forthcoming authorised version will be made available in the Apple App Store for $0.99, which is great news.

I got an unknown error when installing it to my JB iPhone 2G. Any hint (e.g what additional patch is needed besides the Installd Patch 3.0?)

Hopefully it will be available in Apple App Store very soon as for sure I will buy it.

    Martin,
It will probably be in a new post.

    Julyfish,
You need the MobileInstallation patch for 3.0. I've linked to information about it in my blog post

    All,
Thanks for the encouragement. It should be submitted sometime next week.

Somehow I missed Shaun's comment. I don't have any plans for a blackberry version, I don't own a blackberry and wouldn't know where to start. Sorry about that.

I just bought it off the app store (so it is available again – at least in Europe). The feature set sounds really promising, but I have as of yet been unable to connect. First it took me a while to realize that I need to install an add-in. Perhaps this should be obvious, but it still wouldn't hurt to put that bit of info in the app-store description (or did I simply miss it?). Now I have installed the add-in, forwarded port 8169 in my router, but still no luck. In the WHS console, the add-in shows confusing status when I turn it on in settings and click OK to close the settings window. When I re-open the settings window the service has a red light with a 'stop' button next to it. Does that mean it is running? I also don't see a drop-down of users for individual privilege configuration.

Is it just me being a noob? Help me out please. Your product looks great! :)
