as usual this install and usage is not without significant issues.
server claims to think it does not have enough space to perform backup, even though i have 600GB free, and only backing up 150GB whether you click folder duplication or not, it backs up INCREDIBLY slow, so i excluded my vm operating systems and shrunk backup down to 70GB and backup still took 8 hours???? WTF? either wired or wireless. upon reboot of my macbook it does not see the backup drive any longer i have attempted to stop and start the 'backup disk status' without change, further fiddling i am sure will turn up a solution, once again this was promised shorty after the release of the new gen server and once again HP falls flat on its face with late release of a flaky software...
and i need to own a pc to run the exe to extract the .dmg? really???

looking forward to the working version of this.
my 2 cents.

It might be worth putting up a post warning people about this upgrade. It has hosed both my Macbook Pro and Macbook which have required and Archive and Install re-installtion. Symptom is a failed boot (no-smoking sign, single user boot - "still waiting for root device") after having to force a reset on your computer (say, it hangs and you have to use the power button to turn it off). Come to think of it, strange that both Macbooks hung at some point within 24 hours of installing the software.

Anyway, strange enough that it is worth users thinking about before upgrading.

I had the same problem. The solution I've found is not a good one. You will need to create the disk space before any data is added to the MSS. In and ideal world, you would have created the spaced before any backups and data were added to the MSS. Apparently, Time Machine needs a continuous amount of space for backups. The data for the backup cannot be fragmented over the drive. I'm not sure if I am describing it correctly but that is what I've read over at the other MSS forums.

I've followed the directions to install the Mac Backup, but when the backup is being setup, it stops at 8% and says that "Backup Creation Failed. Please make more space available on the server". I have 1.1 TB of free space and the backup disc size that I'm creating is only 234GB. Any thoughts?

will download on the morrow. no mac here or amazon account. I do all my backups on a 1.5tb e-sata drive. nice to have the options but this update isn't as vital to me as the 2.5. regardless im sure there are now many more happy hp customers, so kudos to hp for the continued support in making their whs a more robust option (over nas or local).

Hey Terry, when will you be able to review CloudBerry Backup for S3? ;-) I think it matches the content of your website pretty well! http://cloudberrydrive.com/

Thanks

It doesn't need to be part of the automatic update. There are two items:
1. Is a client for Macs so it wouldn't install on the macine anyway
2. The other is an add-in and not really part of the WHS OS or HP Integrated items.
