    hi,

Congratulations for such a useful forum Terry et al.

I am planning to stop buying 1.5TB standalone Seagate drives for my storage as I will need at least 4-8TB of new storage space over the next 12 months for Full HD movies and high res photos. I mostly want this storage to store and back up files (Photos, FullHD videos, Word, Excel, PPT, Email) but sometimes i will use it to stream movies to my Apple Display and hopefully more often to access my files (photos as well) remotely as I travel quite a lot. I will have several PCs and Macs accessing these drives.

Considering this type of usage, I was thinking of buying either the HP MediaSmart Server or the Acer Easystore. Considering that HP does not sell the MediaSmart in the UK, and having read your evaluation of the new Acer, I was ready to buy the Acer… until i saw the release of the new DroboPro and thought maybe i should wait. Although the DroboPro seems a bit too much for my medium term needs, I found the Drobo 4 bay with the NAS solution would be a good idea. Considering the Drobo+NAS and the Acer Easystore Home Server are roughly the same price in the UK (aprox £400), which one do you recommend for my type of usage?

    Thanks!!!

BTW, it would be useful if i could 'connect' my existing hard drives to the Acer/Drobo unit as well, so i don't have to get rid of them:! I noticed the Acer has USB connections for other drives, but the Drobo doesn't, am i right?

As near as I can tell from the documentation, this is NOT a WINDOWS Home Server unit! This appears to be a proprietary Acres solution with similar, but different, functionality.

    Am I reading it wrong?

Yes, you're reading it wrong. This is Acer's Windown Home Server hardware.

Any word on a UK release date?
