This is good, very good. Exactly what we all needed… a step by step manual / video. Great thinking… congratulations.

Hands down the best and easiest to use add-in available. I was blown away by how good this app is. I’m running Windows 7RC with Windows Home Server SP2 and after struggling for a few days with my Xbox360 I said “What the heck, let’s try the PS3″ which had basically been sitting in the corner gathering dust. With this add-in the PS3 immediately recognized Win7, Media Center and WHS. It has played avis, H.264, Iso’s, 720P, 7.1 sound, wmv…no problems. Can’t recommend enough!

Is the .msi download no longer available?
I seem to find the exe file, but not the msi file.

    Thanks very much!

    Excellent find, thanks for sharing

  • PS3

Love this add-in! I have been using PS3 Media Server for a while on a Vista machine and loved it. Now, I just got up and running my WHS and moved everything over… Great Stuff!

  • RaDude

Will it stream HD .MKV file to PS3? Is there a performance hit with them?

  • Harald

Yes it streams HD MKV just fine. As long as you remux you dont need all that much CPU power (my 2GHz Celeron WHS does 720p without issues), but transcoding requires a very powerful CPU. Transcoding is required for subs, but other than that Ive never had to use it with my MKVs.

Obviously youll want a wired connection for HD.

I’m not quite understanding…. I stream movies from my whs to my ps3 now without this add in. What beniefts will I have from installing this addon? Thanks so much!

    Joe

  • Radude

    Joe,

Your PS3 can only handle a limited number of video codecs. For example one of it’s main limitation in my opinion is the inability to play HD content encoded with H.264 , like the .MKV containers.

  • Drengin

WOW! Thanks so much for this. So easy to use and requires no real knowledge. Installed it, ran it and it found the PS3 and my shared files. all i had to do is search for media servers on the PS3 and et voilá it all worked.

Got to reccomend this program to everyone i know with a ps3 and pc.

    Thanks once again!

  • Paul

If I install a DVB-S Card for UK FreesatHD in WHS – will this allow me to stream live H.264 transmission (the format of Freesat HD I believe) from WHS to the TV via PS3? I believe PowerPack3 for WHS support H.264 but have not yet used WHS

  • P_Ford

Of course there are several different applications stream content to your PS3 or other DLNA device. There just isn’t one that’s easier to install, configure and use as PS3mediaServer.

  • HSmith

Add-in is broke. get the error:
Unable to load config file (PS3MS_config.xml).

    • PeteN

      Same error here :-(

      • BillD

Broke for me too… what a bummer.

  • MK

I have the same bug… you can run it from the client WHS console. However it will minimize the console with in the console window and I have no idea how to get the console back other then to turn off the PS3 Medai server.

it works awesome as a transcoder for the ps3 but i still need the console to work HELP!!!

  • jjtb somhorst

its the crappiest addon I’ve seen around. Sorry about it but all it does is show the ps3 media server screen inside the whs connector. It does not even scale correctly or make use of anything of the api’s ( i assume ) except those which are needed to get an addin running.

I had it crashing for a 3th or 4th time now and it realy start to be irritating.
