New Home Server Hardware – AVA RS5 Music Server

Tranquil PC’s media server brand, AVA Media, today received a boost with the launch of a new model based on Tranquil PC’s excellent SQA-5H home server.

Like its cousin, the AVA RS5 Music Server is a DLNA compliant 5 bay home server which is fitted with a very neat slot loading DVD drive. The model is positioned at digital media enthusiasts seeking CD & DVD ripping, conversion and archiving capabilities alongside the usual home server tasks such as backup, remote access, media sharing and streaming.

The RS5 will ship from April 20th with a media-oriented suite of add-ins, including software to stream to Logitech’s Squeezebox digital media receivers, an iTunes Server, DLNA Server and AVA’s branded version of My Movies for Windows Home Server, which manages the home server’s CD and DVD ripping functionality.

We reviewed the SQA-5H last year and loved it. The addition of the DVD drive and media add-ins provides a pretty complete package for those with large media collections.

The base price of the RS5 is an eye watering £868 (ex VAT) for the 2Tb system with further upgrades available – that said, within the premium home server bracket, it offers far greater expandability than the competing RipNAS and Hush HS1.
