Alex Kuretz over at mediasmartserver.net has the scoop that after a long delay post release, Windows Home Server has finally been released to MSDN and Technet subscribers, (Microsoft’s two major software subscription platforms) getting the product in front of thousands of software developers and IT Pros who now have the chance to try out the platform for themselves.
The fact that WHS has not been available to date has been a major frustration for many developers who have been seeking to try out the software with the view to developing add-ins for the platform. Previously, they would have had to purchase the system builder SKU or order a 120 day evaluation version of the OS – either way costing time, inconvenience or money which is not a great way of winning advocates to a new product category.
Great news and let’s hope it drives further developer adoption and evangelism of Windows Home Server.
Update: 20.30 GMT – looks like it’s been pulled from MSDN & Technet. Trying to find out what’s happening
Update #2: Yesterday’s release was an internal test. Hold tight, it’s coming.
