Whilst the Acer easyStore Home Server was on show at last week’s CeBIT trade show in Hannover, no pricing for the models were announced (at least, I didn’t spot any release online).
However, European model details and pricing is now available, courtesy of a recent server price list released on Acer’s Dutch website. Here’s the low down:
Two models are currently slated for release, differing only by the amount of storage bundled:
TS.R360W.011
Storage: 1 x 640Gb
Processor: Intel Atom 230
RAM: 1Gb
USB: 1 x Front, 4 x Rear
eSATA: 1 x Rear
Networking: Gigabit Ethernet
Add-ins: McAfee Total Protection (6 Month Trial), LightsOut (Power Management), DLNA Media Server, One Touch USB Copy
Price: EUR 461
TS.R360W.012
Storage: 2 x 640Gb
Processor: Intel Atom 230
RAM: 1Gb
USB: 1 x Front, 4 x Rear
eSATA: 1 x Rear
Networking: Gigabit Ethernet
Add-ins: McAfee Total Protection (6 Month Trial), LightsOut (Power Management), DLNA Media Server, One Touch USB Copy
Price: EUR 528
If that pricing is confirmed, then I’ll admit to being disappointed. At 461 euros ($580/£421), the base model is priced around the same as HP’s EX485, and I’d hoped the Acer easyStore would be priced significantly cheaper – particularly as it’s running on a lower hardware specification, and HP’s bundled add-ins are far and away superior to Acer’s.
That said, we’re still waiting to hear of HP’s plans for a release of the EX485/487 in Europe, so right now, Acer have the market pretty much to themselves. On that note, whilst HP’s sales teams in the UK have previously stated that the EX485/487 would not be released in Europe, HP’s product team did advise me when we met in Fort Collins last week that they are still working on plans for a European release. More on this as details are confirmed.
