Great post from ZDNet blogger Zack Whittaker who picks out a new Stream menu in the new version of Windows Media Player that will ship with Windows 7.
The new menu option allows you to link your Windows Live ID with a Windows 7 user account and potentially stream your music, video and photos from any Windows 7 PC to a remote PC.
Sounds like the remote media streaming HP MediaSmart owners are now getting with the new EX485/487 home servers (or indeed that any Windows Home Server box can manage via a service like Orb), but baked into the operating system itself.
As yet, it’s unclear how users will be able to access their media across the internet(it could be from within WMP, or a future Windows Live Media Player, perhaps?) but good to see Microsoft getting the plumbing in place to enable a great media experience out of the box with Windows 7. Remember too, if the next version of Windows Home Server is indeed based on the Windows 7/Windows Server 2008 R2 platform, anything you see in Windows 7, you’ll find in Windows Home Server in the future.
