Quite a while back we posted about a forthcoming home server from Illustrate, developers of the RipNAS Essentials CD ripping add-in for Windows Home Server (along with a host of software for other platforms such as dbPowerAmp).
That home server took a while to come to fruition, but it’s now shipping around Europe and North America and our review model arrived this week for the full Hands-On treatment.
Whilst the RipNAS can be used as a general purpose, two-drive home server, its features are weighted towards music ripping and streaming – it offers in-box support for Sonos, Squeezebox and iTunes streaming, as well as CD ripping to a variety of formats including Apple Lossless, FLAC as well as good old MP3.
On first looks, it’s sturdily built and looks really attractive. Whilst we spend time getting to know the RipNAS, here are a few unboxing shots.
RipNAS is priced from £740 (inc VAT)/$1365 – look out for our review in the next few days.
