VIA Artigo A1000 Arrives at WGS

Thanks to the guys over at VIA in Fremont for sending us over the Artigo A1000 for review.

I’m in the process of getting this guy built, so look out for a full review next week.

In the meantime, here’s a few unboxing shots for you.

Headline…. it’s the smallest computer I’ve ever seen. Truly fantastic engineering.

Hi Terry – great website by the way…

I am sooooo tempted to get one of these – it looks pretty sweet! The ultimate hope would be if it can run some variant of Windows 7 (doubt it mind you!)….I’d love to be able replace my aging, noisy media centre with one of these!

It’s either an Asus B204 EEE Box or one of these…I can’t decide!

    :~)

Will be trying Win 7 on it to see how it copes!

Thanks Terry – that review will be a mandatory read then!

    Looking forward to it!

    Best wishes,
    Nick

Be sure to share the Beta BIOS from Viatech, that enables you to install WHS and perhaps Windows 7 Beta – because the official version on their website won’t do it, and what good does a review do – if what it’s based on, can only be installed by the select few.

I am running WHS on one of these and have been for the past couple of months. Tech support from Via was great and they emailed me the BIOS to allow WHS installations. I’m not sure why they don’t just post the BIOS on their web site though.

I installed Windows 7 on mine today and it works great. I had to flash a new bios first, but just used a boot floppy with the DOS flash program from VIA's site and used the server bios.
You don't get AERO, but then— who cares! You DO get a 1024×768 screen though! Windows 7 sets the video up as Standard VGA. The drivers for everything else onboard are in Windows 7 already.

I got memory size problem with this Artigo kit. When I installed 1GB, Win 7 says 512MB is installed, but when I exchanged it with 2GB, it says 1 GB is installed. Did I miss something in the BIOS. I flashed the BIOS with version 1.06 from VIA website.

Also, the graphic seems slow, lacks of frame, what driver did you install for it guys?
