So, in my search for the perfect plugin to allow me to watch video from the web, I’ve saved the best until last.

TunerFree MCE is a fabulous plugin for Media Center which allows easy access to a ranged of UK and now US online video content, directly in the Media Center interface, including:

  • BBC iPlayer (BBC 1, 2, 3 & 4, CBBC and CBeebies)
  • ITV 1, 2, 3 & 4
  • Channel 4
  • Five
  • Hulu

The latest beta (2.2.4 Beta) now allows you to automatically switch between your standard IP address and a proxy service such as AlwaysVPN which allows you to access US only web content from outside the US. Hurrah, hulu will be mine at last! You can find a guide for using the plugin with an OpenVPN-based service here.

If you’re in the US and want to access BBC content, then I’m sure a Google search would find you an equivalent service.

Works fantastically well in Windows Vista and there’s full support on the way for the Windows 7 Beta too. Definitely one to check out.

      I agree that TunerFree MCE is the best implementation I’ve seen so far of any of the internet tv plugins. I had higher hopes for SecondRun.tv but it wasn’t quite as good as it should have been when it was first released.

      Installation doesn’t go as planned on my Vista Ultimate (32bit). A console window that says LOADING BBC stays on forever, pops an error then says Loading ITV which stays on forever…

      I read the TunerFree MCE website and it said that IPlayer would not stream to an extender because it was Flash based.

      Does Hulu work when stream to an extender in this way?

      Hi Folks,

      I have installed this great plug-in, can someone tell me does it require the VPN for UK users and UK based content?

      I am a little confused. Basically I can see all the channels for the UK but nothing streams?

      I have rebooted etc.

      If you’re in the UK, UK content should display without a proxy. If you’re in the US, US content should display without a proxy. Other combinations will need a proxy.

      i am in canada can anyone recommend A fast free UK proxy I could use for this plugin .

      It gives me “not designed for mediacenter” errors when I try to play a video. To me, this one’s no different than SecondRunTV. Neither one of them work right.

      Hi guys, I have found that you can use Hotspot Shield to get a US IP address to access HULU :-) .
      Best of all is totally free :-) :-)

      I watch Hulu and BBC by connecting through http://www.purevpn.com and it works like a charm..
