Aleutia F5 Home Server

Aleutia is not a company I’ve come across previously, but along with doing good deeds in developing countries, the business is also planning on releasing a very small footprint Windows Home Server model called the F5 at the end of the month.

The model is stated to be even smaller than Tranquil PC’s models, and offers a single-drive solution running off VIA’s 1.5GHz Eden platform (a low power variant of the C3/C7 processor) with a power consumption of just 17 watts.

Two chassis will be released – one which will take a standard 3.5” drive and a second that is designed for 2.5” drives and will have Ubuntu 8.10 on board. Looking at the image available, you’ll have 2 USB sockets for additional external hard drives, but they’ll need to get rid of those VGA and PS2 sockets if they want to meet WHS logo requirements. A few LEDs on the front may also be handy to please the guys in Redmond.

Pricing for the 3.5” version is slated at $499 inc a 1Tb Western Digital Drive ($395 without the drive) whilst the 2.5” unit will be $375 and $449 with a 250Gb drive.

And …. why would I want to buy this expensive…. toy? To be original? [/sarcasm]
Sorry, but the idea of WHS backup IS disk redundancy, and with the current limitations on WHS-2-WHS replication this one does not make sense.

Big ups to you for writing this. It’s pretty really truly so good. I discovered the most ambitious crumbs of information here.
