Add-In: SqueezeCenter 7.3.3 for Windows Home Server

Great news on the way for those of you who use Squeezeboxes with Windows Home Server to play music around the home.

Currently, the software used to control your Squeezeboxes, SqueezeCenter is relatively fiddly to install on WHS, but the next release of the application, 7.3.3 will include a Windows Home Server add-in which will make installation much easier.

Version 7.3.3 is currently in beta, and a post on the SqueezeCenter forums is asking for specific feature and integration requests for WHS – head on over and let the guys know what you want!

  • How do I Leave a Post?

I tried signing up for the feed, but to no avail. It kept cycling back to the registration screen with asterisks by all of the fields. I’d like to participate as RodWright at rodneyleewright@cox.net, 1940-10-30 (DoB.)

My intended question was about external backups of the MHS. A backup is not really secure unless periodic backups of MHS are stored in another location. I bought a Seagate Extreme 1.5TB external drive but Seagate’s install program failed because it said it could only install on XP or Vista. Obviously, MHS does not identify as either of those. I returned the drive to my supplier a few days afterwards but would like to find a drive that will backup MHS onto an external drive. We will be buying two.

    The intention is to:
    - Backup MHS onto an external drive.
    - Physically transport that drive to my external site (my son’s house.)
    - Install the second identical external drive on the MHS.
    - Backup MHS data onto the second external drive.
    - Meanwhile, my son will copy his computer files onto a separate folder of the first external drive.
    - About once a month or so, we’ll exchange external drives. Therefore each of us will have a backup stored offsite that is no older than one month.

I tried installing 7.3.3 as the add in and it just got stuck @ starting the squeezecenter svc and then told me I didn’t have sufficient rights to start the svc ?!

    I got the same error

I ran into the same problem and found a workaround. When you see the Retry/Cancel error message, do the following steps:

    1. Go to Start > All Progams > Squeezecenter > Squeezecenter Startup options
    2. Select “Start Squeezecenter automatically…” and enter your username and password
    3. Finish the wizard
    4. Click “Retry” on the error message.
