PerfectDisk 10 for Windows Home Server Released January 27th

Last week we reviewed the latest version of disk-defragger Diskeeper 2009 Home Server.

PerfectDisk 10 for Windows Home Server is fully integrated into the WHS Console and comes with the following features:

  • Improved performance
Saving you time and resources, PerfectDisk’s engine now runs up to 30% faster.
  • Smart automatic StealthPatrol

Does anyone know if Raxco, will honor those coupons we used to get a deal on the version 9 of the software? I was under the understanding that we will get a free upgrade. Any insight on this?

  • CBick

@bigred – Yes! They sent me an email with instructions on how to upgrade for free.

  • CBick

I am currently upgraded and running 10.0

Anyone done a comparison on Perfectdisk vs Diskeeper 2009?
Effectivity and system load would be most interesting to me. Speed doesn’t matter so much I guess.

All this defragmentation software being marketed makes me wonder: why not use the built-in defragmentation tool (accessible via C:\WINDOWS\system32\dfrg.msc – obviously only when using a Remote Desktop Connection to your home server) ?

I just ran it on my SYS-partition (no problems with Drive Extender to be expected there), as analysis showed that it was necessary. I’m not so sure about using it on my DATA-partitions though. Does “Many standard Windows Server administration tools available from this desktop can break Windows Home Server.” apply to this one, in other words will it conflict with Drive Extender ? Is anybody aware of information from Microsoft, or user reports regarding the application of the built-in defragmentation tool ? Thanks for letting us know !

  • Terry Walsh

@Buck Danny – The in-built Disk Defragmentation app is not aware of Drive Extender, and as such, running it on your home server’s hard disks is not recommended at all.

@CBick – I never got an email from them?!? I got the discount when I purchased though. Is there any other way to upgrade it? Should I just contact them you think?

I got an email today on the new version with this being the first line.

It’s a Perfect 10! PerfectDisk 10 has officially arrived and hopefully you are already up and running with the new download that was sent to you by Customer Service.

I never got an email? Anyone know who I should contact. I’ve tried customer service, but they have not replied yet. :(
