CES 2009: D-Link Sidestage

The D-Link Sidestage is a 7″ auxillary monitor which allows you to extend your display by dragging and dropping specific applications or widgets on to the screen.

It’s USB powered and provides an 800 x 480 resolution – would be very handy if you wanted to keep your Windows Home Server Console open and available at all times.

As it runs off a USB connection, it will be fascinating to see if this will also work with a headless home server – that is, as long as a compatible drive is released.

looks nice, but it’s probably overpriced.

  • Mark

Indeed nice, would be even better if it would come with a touchscreen through the same usb connection…

Maybe also nice for a media center pc, allowing you to browse your music library without having to switch on your tv…?

This looks almost like the replica from Nanovision MIMO USB screen..which is already released state side..The higher model is touch screen can be ordered at gadgeteers. However for the price you can probably buy a full-blown monitor. But again its eye-candy..right?

I doubt they would release any server 2000/2003 drivers by now, it is 2009 after all. Besides, since most servers are headless anyways why would they bother with a driver?

I have a headless server (Fujitsu Siemens Scaleo) and I would like to see the Bios settings. So I wouldn’t need a Windows driver for that, but Bios support.

I have a 17″ touchscreen for my server. It works great when I want to check something on not have a mouse or keyboard attached. I wonder how much this chews on the CPU? I have seen other USB to VGA adapters that take up a fair amount of the CPU to use. Hopefully the small resolution will limit that.

Can I use this to do the initial install of WHS, and then disconnect it? I’m thinking of building a box using the VIA NSD7800, but it doesn’t have a video output that I could see…
