TVTonic Gets Hit by the Financial Crisis

A few weeks ago, TVTonic made an announcement that the Media Center plug-in has been disabled due to the financial situation the world is seeing.

We regret to announce that TVTonic has been disabled

In these tough financial times we are faced with the need to take down the TVTonic service while we restructure for the future.

Although the service is being retired, you’re free to continue to use TVTonic to download and watch your favorite RSS video channels not provided by us.

You may ask: what is/was TVTonic?  From their “About TVTonic”:

Video for your TV and PC: TVTonic is The Internet Channel

  • watch, subscribe and manage Internet TV channels
  • designed to be used with a remote control, keyboard or mouse
  • works on-line or off
  • subscribe for automatic delivery of the latest content
  • exclusive feeds for TVTonic users

Internet TV is an entertainment avenue that could be a viable alternative to OTA, Cable, and Satellite options.  Watch TV when and where you want.  In order to get users to try out this entertainment alternative, services have had to promote this concept as a free service.  Nothing operates for free, however, and in these times, advertising revenues are being channeled to areas where a company sees the best return from their advertising dollar.  It would appear TVTonic is a victim of shrinking advertisement revenue.

Let’s hope that they can survive the crisis and come back stronger.

About Jim Clark

Hello. I’m from the heartland of the U.S. Lots of corn and beans, although Iowa is a lot more than just farmland. It also has a few computer enthusiasts (no, not me!). I’ve been around PCs since I got my 1st PC XT aloooong time ago. WGS is one of the first sites I found centered around WHS. And the best. Every once in awhile, I do get away from the KB and enjoy time with and my wife and our 4 kids. And I do have a day job.

    Jim,

Tvtonic wasn’t hit by “shrinking advertisement revenue.” They had NO revenue at all, and never did!!

Tvtonic is a subsidiary of a horrible company named Wave Systems, who has lost $340 million dollars over the years making software that makes no money. In the last four quarters, Tvtonic has made $0, the parent company Wave has made $7 million but in the process LOST another $20 million!!

Look up the ticker symbol WAVX on any financial research site and read about the company. Tvtonic never had any hope to begin with.

Without revenue of any kind, failure is guaranteed. Quite unfortunate. :(
