Looks like one of the first commercial releases for Windows Home Server, Diskeeper Home Server, has received an update to a brand new version. Diskeeper 2009 Home Server is an incremental upgrade to last year’s edition, and if you’re looking for a disk defragmentation application for your home that integrates nicely with the Windows Home Server console, it may just fit the bill.
Diskeeper 2009 HomeServer Edition
Diskeeper 2009 HomeServer edition is top-speed cruise control for your Windows® Home Server (WHS), allowing you to enjoy unprecedented performance and reliability for centralised applications and shared files. Fragmented hard drives drain critical system resources and compromise almost every aspect of daily computer use, leading to longer load times, persistent lags and costly crashes.
Diskeeper 2009 elevates system performance, debugging fragmentation-based problems as they occur, without ever compromising vital system resources, even when the whole family is connected to the computer.
Diskeeper® 2009 HomeServer Edition Features include:
Your Windows™ server will run faster and more reliably with Diskeeper . It’s a must have no network can afford to be without. In fact, thousands of IT pros wouldn’t consider running their servers without Diskeeper.
InvisiTasking® technology —The breakthrough feature no defrag operation should be without! InvisiTasking is the foundation for Diskeeper to eliminate fragmentation in real time without affecting system resources. The InvisiTasking Technology monitors resource use, and makes sure only idle, untapped resources are used when Diskeeper EnterpriseServer 2009 is running. Diskeeper with InvisiTasking never interrupts system productivity and keeps your server running at optimal speeds.
Exclusive! Terabyte Volume Engine™ 2.0 —Powerful defragmentation for high capacity and high traffic servers with disk volumes containing hundreds of thousands to millions of files (e.g. NAS, RAID, and SAN). Also allows unobtrusive and thorough free space consolidation on busy 24/7 servers. Unlimited volume size.
EXCLUSIVE! Real-time defragmentation automatically handles fragmentation as it occurs, providing maximum system performance at all times!
Complete file and free space defragmentation in the most extreme of conditions— even if your systems have only a one or two percent of free space left available or a file in millions of fragments, Diskeeper 2009 can restore lost performance and save the applications reliant on those files from major reliability failures.
“Defragmentation Intelligence” enhancements —Diskeeper’s logic controller, which detects various volume and system conditions and chooses the most effective algorithm, has been re-designed to deliver performance benefits faster and more efficiently to keep your server running like new.
Frag Shield® 2.0 — boosts reliability and availability by automatically preventing crash-inducing fragmentation of critical system files.
Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) Compatibility mode —only Diskeeper 2009’s new VSS-compatible mode affords you the ability to leverage the data protection of VSS and the performance and reliability of automatic defragmentation.
THE DASHBOARD – The Dashboard tab, an easy-to-use consol, displays real-time details about your server’s fragmentation levels, the health of your volumes, the idle resources being used to run, and other useful defragmentation information which accelerates server performance
Automatic Online Directory Consolidation —boosts antivirus scans and back-up speed.
Boot-time mode safely performs Microsoft®-recommended defragmentation of critical system files.
Network Management Support —control Diskeeper settings and functionality via Diskeeper Administrator edition or Group Policy.
Diskeeper’s great competitor, PerfectDisk will also be releasing their new edition of the product in January. In the meantine, you can download a free 30 day trial of Diskeeper 2009 HomeServer to see how it improves your home server’s performance. If you’re purchasing, expect to pay around £55/$70 (that exchange rate sucks, Diskeeper) – details are missing on the upgrade price from the 2008 edition.
We reviewed Diskeeper 2008 earlier in the year – check out what we thought of that release.

I wish the OS had this capability. WHS just turning up like Windows Desktop OS. I think it is reasonable to expect this functionality from the server OS.

Raxco Perfect Disk still looks like a better offer.

I also contacted Diskeeper’s support persons and received a response today, not that it makes much sense but they suggest emailing websales@diskeeper.com with your details and someone can help with pricing and upgrades.
I will of course ‘Have a Nice Day’.

$99.95 (and that's the 'sales price' , not the regular price!) for a defragmenting software? Thank you, but no thank you.
