Nokia Get Into the Digital Media Receiver Game

I have a number of Logitech Squeezeboxes dotted around the house which are connected to my home server - streaming music around the home is one of the greatest additions WHS has brought to my house. Nokia this week announced what looks like a great competitor in the shape of Nokia Home Music, a digital media receiver which connects to any UPnP device to stream music, internet and FM radio.

The device itself comes with a small colour screen and integrated speaker, as well as a 3.5″ headphone jack and remote control, so you can simply plug it in, connect it to your network and you’re good to go. For the old-schoolers amongst you there’s even an analogue style knob for tuning in to your favourite radio stations.

Nokia Home Music connects to your network either wirelessly (802.11 b/g) or Ethernet and looks like a nice and simple DMR for the home. No word on pricing or availability as yet – looks like another CES investigation is required.

This is great. I am looking to get two devices for my kids rooms so they can listen to the music from the server. What I really need is a clock radio like device that has a screen for searching. It sounds like this would be a good choice.

It is good to know that Squeezeboxes work with WHS. Based on the reasearch I have done, I could not determine if they would.
