Polywell NetDisk 8000v

The list of manufacturers and system builders developing hardware solutions for Windows Home Server continues to grow. Over in the States, Polywell have recently announced their NetDisk 8000v, which can be configured with Windows Home Server or Linux should you wish.

The 8000v is a tall tower unit, offering (count ‘em) 8 hot swappable drive bays, which will get you up to 12 Tb of storage if you popped a 1.5Tb drive in each of them!

You can purchase the unit pre-configured with 4Tb ($1699), 8Tb ($2599) or splash out on the 12Tb system ($2999) if you’re feeling flush. The included memory is low, so you may need to upgrade if you wanted to run a number of add-ins.

Specs are as follows:

Processor x86 processor running at 1.5GHz
(Guess they’re being a little shy here)
Memory 512Mb
Flash RAM 1Gb (Optional for WHS)
LAN Two Gigabit LAN ports
Storage up to eight 3.5″ SATA-II Hot-Swap Drive 500GB, 1TB or 1.5TB (total 12TB)

RAID 5, 10, 1 and 0 with Hot Spare supported

USB 4x USB 2.0 connectors (Rear)
Dimensions 150mm x 340mm x 340mm
Weight 12kg

pretty price and I do not know why they used such a light processor. Now the case I love. That is the kind of case I am trying to find but have not found one yet.

Agreed, the case is fantastic and would love to build a machine in it. If anyone is able to source the case please let us all know on these comments.

Price is too high though – even for the huge storage involved!
