Vidabox specialise in high-end digital entertainment and control devices for the custom installation market.

eHomeUpgrade reports that Vidabox’s new Rack Server is now shipping – rack mounted Windows Home Server system, which ships with 2Tb but is expandable to 16Tb when purchased with Vidabox’s Rack Server + eSATA storage expansion unit.

The system is designed as a media server, to be used with extenders attached to TVs around the home. The server comes with 8 hot swappable drive bays, a DVD drive (Blu-Ray drive optional)  and multi-card reader. Whilst the system is designed as a headless unit, dual DVI/VGA outputs are made available.

Why the DVD drive? Looks like the Vidabox Rack Server is coming bundled with the recently released My Movies add-in, providing east ripping and metadata management as soon as a DVD is placed in the drive.

2 gigs of RAM and an AMD 5200+ Dual Core Processor ensure you have plenty of grunt to move all that media around your home.

If you’re in the market for a 4U rack mounted home server, Vidabox is well worth checking out.
