Over the past few months, Microsoft have been working hard to raise the profile of Windows Home Server with the developer community, culminating in the product being released to MSDN (at last) in the coming weeks.
Now, in an attempt to drive sales from system builders, Microsoft are today announcing that the price of the Windows Home Server SKU will receive a permanent reduction by 30% – here’s the announcement we’ve just received.
Beginning tomorrow, November 1, Microsoft will introduce a 30% price reduction of the Windows Home Server software for the System Builder channel.
After a successful year on the market, Microsoft is reducing the price of the System Builder version of Windows Home Server to provide additional value to the system builder community and further promote the home server category.
During its first year in the market, Windows Home Server has been embraced by customers in over 50 countries. The list of hardware partners continues to grow and third-party software developers have released or have announced more than 60 Add-in programs extending Windows Home Server’s capabilities.
This is a pretty big announcement – reducing the price of the system builder SKU by a significant amount will hopefully encourage more companies to release Windows Home Server systems, enabling a reduced price point and greate sales volume. From an end-user perspective, it will hopefully mean that Windows Home Server is better placed to compete with Linux based NAS devices at the bottom end of the market.
It’s great to see Microsoft starting to get out there and competing to grow the home server market. You can hear more about the announcement over at the Windows Home Server Team Blog.
