Add-in Update: AutoExit 2008 R2 Release Candidate

Good news arrives from Belgium where Nick from Asoft is about to issue the release candidate of AutoExit 2008 R2 – the add-in which lets you shut down, wake and reboot machines in your home network from within the Windows Home Server Console.

This should be the final version before full release and brings the following new features and fixes:

New features:
- WOL Server from client automatically. Waking up the server can now be done from every client automatically, so that when a client wakes up, the server is woken up.

Changes:
- A few small additions in the guideline.
- The balloon tip for the client that pops up after startup, has been removed.
- WOL Server didn’t always work, this is fixed.
- Installer supports more languages.
- When a machine was upgraded, it is displayed twice in the list (which is normal), but it couldn’t be shut down because AutoExit gave a message that the machine was offline. This has been fixed.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

I can’t tell you how annoying this was and it was at the top of my wish list for changes.

Also, one thing i’ve noticed is that AE needs to be installed under each profile – at least with Vista for me.

Not sure if this is the norm or I’m the exception, but just and FYI. I will test it on XP and different user profiles and let you know the results.

Otherwise, this is one of the best add-ins for WHS.

Great add-in, keep up the good work as it gives us control of our home machines.
