If you use the Logitech Squeezebox on your home network and, as a result, have SlimServer running on your HP MediaSmart Server, then installing the new HP Update will cause an issue – i.e. Your Squeezeboxes will stop working.
PVConnect, which is media serving software which installs with the new HP MediaSmart Server update, appears to use exactly the same port (9000) as SlimServer, and as a result, when you install the new update, your Squeezeboxes will not be able to play any music, and when you access SlimServer on WHS, you’ll be surprised to see a TwonkyMedia (PV Connect) settings page.
To resolve the issue, you’ll need to reset SlimServer to utilise a different port. Here’s how you do it:
1. Log on your the Home Server through Remote Desktop
2. Open server.prefs with Notepad ( C:\Documents and Setting\All Users\Application Data\SqueezeCenter\prefs\ server.prefs )
3. Change the line httpport: 9000 to httpport: 9001 and saved the document.
4. Change Control Panel > Windows Firewall – Exceptions: “SqueezeCenter 9000 tcp” from port 9000 to port 9001
5. Restart the Home Server – and voila, up and running.
Thanks to the SlimServer forums for the workaround, and yes, I have two Squeezeboxes – they’re completely brilliant.
