WMC Plugin: Facebook in Windows Media Center

Ian Dixon has helped Martin Thornalley announce his new Windows Media Center application, Photato, which provides a 10 foot interface to Facebook.  Ian is hosting a link to Martin’s forthcoming website and Martin has provided an e-mail address for WMC users interested in helping to beta test Photato.

An application like this is long overdue and will hopefully signal a series of new social network centric WMC apps.

    What happened? Did We Got Served get hacked? All I see is posts about Windows Media Center. This site used to be about Windows Home Server! Bring it back!

    I’ve heard those rumours, and I’d love it if it ever happened – don’t know if it will though. The rationale is actually that I know there’s a load of people out there who use WHS and MCE in their homes as well as other digital media devices, and my hunch is that in the future, we’ll be doing more with Windows Home Server than storage and backup, but using WHS as our digital media hubs to share, stream and enjoy content wherever we are.

    We do that now to a degree (well, I do, anyway) and I’m really keen to do more of it in the future – my hunch is that lots of our readers feel the same.

    So, whilst staying 100% all over the Windows Home Server world, we’re broadening out to other digital media topics (including MCE) and it’s also a great opportunity to bring in some fresh voices who are really passionate about digital media, generate more discussion and more content for the site and generally grow the community.

    In terms of balance, I’m really conscious that we have a pretty mature product in MCE and a smaller product in WHS so we need to ensure we don’t swamp everyone in just pure MCE stuff (hence your post!). Depending on how news falls however, there will be days where there’s lots of WHS news (a few add-in releases today), other days when there’s lots of MCE/digital media news, and other days when there’s no news at all and you may just hear crickets :)

    So that’s where we are – hope it all does make sense, but keep the feedback coming…. and if WHS & MCE do ever play more nicely toegther, then we’ll be in a great place to share the good news.
