HP MediaSmart Server Update Arrives, With New Media Streaming, Anti-Virus Capabilities

HP have released their “April” update for the HP MediaSmart Server to the Web, which brings new, DLNA-complaint media streaming and anti-virus capabilities to the home server, along with a suite of bug-fixes for HP’s own add-ins.

The following new (optional) add-ins are included:

  • PVConnect Media Streaming
  • McAfee Server-side AntiVirus

along with improvements to:

  • HP Photo Webshare
  • iTunes Media Aggregator
  • Client software for x64 Windows Vista (note, this alone does not make WHS x64 compatible at this point – you will need to wait for Power Pack 1 for this)

Many users are currently having trouble installing the update (surprising, given how long HP have had to test it) – my home server found and downloaded the update, closed and re-opened the WHS Console with seemingly no changes. I’m sure that will be straightened out, and in the meantime, check out this thread and this thread for updates.

We featured news on the HP update a few months back – check out the preview.
