As we draw to the end of 2007, plans are already being hatched for new Windows Home Server goodies in 2008! One of the first releases of the year will be a sparking brand new version of PerfectDisk for Windows Home Server, to help keep your home server drives optimised and running well.

    I thought you weren’t suppose to defrag WHS. That it would mess up the tombstones. Can you shead any light on this?

    It’s not recommended to use the built-in defrag utility in WHS. However, a product like PerfectDisk for WHS or Diskeeper for WHS which is specifically intended to work with WHS is “perfectly” fine. ;-)

    I don’t intent to defrag my drives at all. I was suddenly having problems with Diskeeper (I think it was Diskeeper) on the CTP version. My shares became very slow and unstable for some reason.

    O well, maybe i’ll try this one out when it’s released…

    I think keeping drives defragmented is a good idea, especially if they see a lot of file write/modification activity and hence are susceptible to fragmentation. I don’t see how defragging would slow down anything. Automatic defragmentation is also a cool idea – so the user does not need to fiddle with the disks; let the defragger do the job. Good bye, scheduled defrags!

    I hope that this new version handles the tombstones properly, because i had a problem with version 8 trialware wiping them all out – but maybe that was just the trialware?
