Firefly for WHS

Firefly is a media server application which allows you to stream music to DMR’s like the Roku Soundbridge and to iTunes. It’s an open source, community build application, offering the following features:

  • Support for running on unix/POSIX platforms
  • Support for Windows (beta versions)
  • Support for Mac OSX (coming soon!)
  • Support for on-the-fly transcoding of OGG, FLAC, Apple Lossless, and WMA (beta versions)
  • Web-based configuration
  • Support for user-created smart playlists (beta versions)
  • Integrates with iTunes library including reading playlists
  • Supports serving streaming radio stations

Nic Bedford has ported the application for use as an add-in in Windows Home Server. The add-in is still in development, and Nic is looking for testing and feedback.
