Security Certificate Error

If you have attempted to access your home server remotely from a computer that hasn’t had the WHS Connector software installed (your work PC for example) then you will have encountered a warning page in your browser stating that there’s a problem with your website’s security certificate. Phillip Churchill has more details and a potential workaround.

Security Certificate Error

Hold on with that workaround, though! Charlie Kindel, WHS General Manager

dropped a big hint in his recent interview with Scott Hanselman that they’ll be seeking to fix this issue soon.

“We recognise that there’s an issue here…We haven’t announced anything here yet, but we are working on a solution to this problem that will be made available in the very near future. It’s something we’ve been working on for a long time and we’ve got, I think, a very creative solution that’s in the works”.

Given the non-technical user WHS is targetting, the Security Certificate problem is a big issue – asking users to ignore a security error message is not a great workaround for the product, so it’s great to see that a solution is forthcoming. Whether the solution will be ready in time for RTM, or shortly after remains to be seen.
