WHS Add-ins Page Added

Seems like the WHS Developer Community out there is starting to flex its muscles to create some great new add-ins for Windows Home Server, so I thought it would be a good idea to create a new page on the blog to keep track of what people are releasing.

As ever, if you see something out there that should be listed on the Add-ins section of the blog, then get in touch. I’m also happy to host/mirror add-ins here if anyone needs space/bandwidth.

It would be very nice if the add in page could add a litle note on the new addins. For instance everything new he last 10,20 or 30 days would have a little note saying… well yes… “NEW” :)

I agree totally with Tormod. I visit your add-ins page a few times a week, and it’s almost impossible to tell what’s new.

But I would like to also take it 1 step further …. make it mandatory for submitters of add-ins to include the date of that version of their added, but they must use the format dd MMM yy. Period. No exception.

Right now it’s next to impossible, and totally impossible at times, to determine what date an add-in was added. For example …..

Eric uses the format of day-month-year (08/02/08). I know that, but only because August isn’t here yet. After August, I would have no way of knowing if he released that version of his add-in in February, or August.

Brendan, on the other hand, uses the format month-day-year (03/08/08). I know that too, but only because August isn’t here yet. Obnce again, after August, I would have no way of knowing if he released that version of his add-in in February, or August.

By making it mandatory that they spell out the month (using 3 characters), there can be no confusion.

Thanks for the great add-in site. And now that PP1 is here (and hopefully that bug is gone), perhaps now we will see more activity for add-ins, which for the past several months has all but come to a grinding halt.

Yep – I have a plan in place to migrate the add-ins list to a new area of the WGS forums, which will allow everyone to rate add-ins quickly, ensure that new add-ins are easily spotted etc.

Bear in mind that our add-in list is compiled by ourselves to ensure it’s as complete as possible, rather than requesting authors submit their files, so it relies on the community supporting us with a heads-up on what’s new.

Look out for the new add-ins section soon.

Does anybody know if someone is working on disk, folder and file encryption for the WHS or if there is a good solution available now.
