LDisk adds iSCSI Target Storage capability to your Server. Using LDisk, you can create a single appliance to provide all your storage and backup needs.

Windows Home Server 2011 Step by Step – Part 16: Recovering Your Server
One of the frequently requested enhancements to Windows Home Server v1 was the ability to back up and restore the server. In this original version, you could back up your shared folders. You could not back up the server itself in the case of an Operating System hard drive failure, virus, corrupted disk, or other catastrophe. You could only back up the client backup database through an add-in.
With Windows Home Server 2011, all that changed. You can now back up any part of the file system of your home server, or the entire file structure. Creating such a backup was discussed in the last chapter.
In this chapter, we are going to discuss how to restore this data to your server in the event of a catastrophe.

Add-in Update: StableBit Scanner v2.0.0.1873
StableBit Scanner is an advanced hard drive scanning and monitoring tool for Windows Home Server v1, Windows Home Server 2011 and Windows Small Business Server 2011 Essentials. It monitors all hard drives in your home server looking for damage then analyses and retrieves files from the damaged sectors of the disk.

Add-in Update: Cloudberry Backup for Windows Home Server v2.8
Cloudberry Backup allows you to back-up the data on your server to the cloud. Powered by Amazon S3, the add-in integrates neatly with the Dashboard to allow backup scheduling, data encryption and many more features to protect your data.

Are You Thinking Windows 8? (Let Us Know)
Later this year, Microsoft will be unleashing Windows 8 upon the world. As part of this latest Windows generation, we hear such terminology as “Metro”, “Windows RT”, “Storage Spaces”, “tablets”, and “slates”. Is Windows 8 the new Windows Vista, or will it be a true revolutionary step forward for Microsoft’s venerable OS? Is it the do-all OS that Microsoft hopes it will be, including (perhaps) the new Windows Home Server? What do you think?

Add-in Update: Drive Bender v1.3.1.0
A new release of Drive Bender, a storage pooling add-in for Windows Home Server 2011, has been released. This is a bug fix release supporting improvements to storage pool management, file balancing, data duplication and more.

How To Install Microsoft SkyDrive on Windows Home Server 2011
According to Microsoft, “SkyDrive for Windows is the easiest way to access your SkyDrive”. With SkyDrive installed on your home server you will be able to add, change or delete files in one location and have your files automatically sync in all the locations you employ the SkyDrive application.

Add-in: LDisk-D
InteliSAN have released a new, expanded edition of their LDisk iSCSI add-in for Windows Home Server 2011, Windows Small Business Server Essentials 2011 and Windows Storage Server 2008 R2 Essentials. Called LDisk-D, the new version of the add-in has been released in response to user requests from server owners needing non-English language support alongside the ability to use any existing Windows partition for iSCSI storage.

86% of Windows Home Server 2011 Owners Use Additional Storage Management & Protection
Here’s an interesting statistic. A few weeks ago we ran a poll asking Windows Home Server 2011 users what, if any, additional storage management software they were running on their servers. The idea was to primarily see how the new storage pooling apps for the platform were competing – but I was surprised to see just how many users felt the need to protect and pool their data with additional storage management support.

An essential hardware purchase for all Windows Home Server owners is an Uninterruptible Power Supply – these battery back-up units supply power to your server in the event of a power outage. Whether you live in an area that suffers from frequent outages, or you simply want to protect your data and hardware from the dreaded, accidental PSU kick then you should take a look at one.

CES 2012: Sony’s HomeShare Speakers, Blu-ray Disc Home Theater System to Support Apple’s AirPlay
If you’re thinking of spreading your audio around the home, Sonos and Logitech’s Squeezebox may have been your favoured options. But perhaps it’s time to give Sony’s HomeShare system a second chance – whilst the first iteration resolutely avoided support for Apple’s AirPlay, the electronics giant has now bowed to the inevitable and built in support for Cupertino’s streaming technology.

Windows Home Server 2011 Step by Step – Part 15: Backing Up Your Server
Using Windows Home Server 2011 to protect your data is a great first step in the quest for peace of mind, but it is only a first step. You can back up your data from your PCs to the server, great, but what happens if the server itself fails? Or is stolen? With regard to server failure, that can be mitigated in part by the ability to backup the server itself (which we’ll cover separately later). Otherwise, keeping a backup off-site, at a family member, friend’s house or even the office is a great idea. As ever, WHS 2011 makes it easy.

Windows Home Server 2011 Step by Step – Part 14: Doing More With Add-ins
So far, we’ve discussed the features built-in to Windows Home Server 2011, and there are a lot of them to cover. But Microsoft cleverly designed the software to be extendable – so developers can create applications (called add-ins in the WHS world) which literally add new features to the platform. Over the four years of Windows Home Server v1’s life, community developers released well over one hundred add-ins for the platform, and we’re well on the way to seeing a great selection of apps for WHS 2011 too.

Hands On: Tranquil PC Riley Server
Over the last five years, Manchester’s Tranquil PC has been right at the forefront of home server hardware development with a range of increasingly good looking custom chassis. Their latest effort, the Tranquil PC Riley Server is unconventional in the fact that it splits system and storage across two devices (the accompanying four drive Riley Storage unit is available as an option). Whilst that configuration may lead to two boxes sitting on your desktop, the result still looks great.
